When you engage with the Space and Astronomy Parkes and Compact Array Observatories through this PORTAL,
CSIRO may collect certain personal information about you. When it does, your personal information is
protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act).
CSIRO will handle your information in accordance with this Act as otherwise required by law.
The personal information CSIRO collects may include your name, other identifying information, institution
and contact telephone number. This information is collected and shared with other PORTAL users so that:
- Observers using the PORTAL can see who is the current Observer in Charge.
- Observers using the PORTAL can see the full names of those booked for observing sessions.
- CSIRO staff can contact you if there is a need to (via. a redirect service provided by Cisco).
- Observers will not be able to see the direct contact number you provide, only the Cisco redirect number.
CSIRO may also collect your IP address through external provider https://ipinfo.io/ to obtain your
approximate geolocation. CSIRO does this to identify the countries from which observers are accessing our
radio telescopes, and is used only for reporting purposes (such as our Annual Report).
All personal information databases are stored on CSIRO servers, with strictly controlled access to the
databases for those CSIRO officers with a ‘need to know’.
For further information on how CSIRO handles your personal information and our access, correction and
complaints process please read our privacy policy available on our website
(https://www.csiro.au/en/about/policies/privacy) or by contacting us at privacy@csiro.au.
